Grateful because without my alcoholism I wouldn’t have my recovery. And without my recovery, I wouldn’t have the support of such a wonderful team. Because of this, life is beautiful now. But mine wasn’t always.
Towards the end of my drinking career, I was drinking every day, at all waking hours just to pacify my nerves and withdrawal symptoms. It was groundhog day, and I didn’t know how to get out.
I was given the gift of desperation. It was desperation that brought me to a church basement and it’s my family, that church basement, and the people within it that have kept me sober for almost 3 years. My Team.
Sobriety has given me everything alcohol promised but never delivered. Alcohol told me I needed it to celebrate, but here I am, Team Spirits in hand, celebrating a life alcohol tried to take from me, alongside a team recovery gifted me.
